The State Theatre opened February 5, 1921. At the time, it was considered the most technologically advanced and elaborate theatre in the U.S. The original stage floor was glass, which allowed direct lighting from underneath. Since the re-opening in 1991, the State has hosted live Broadway touring productions and concerts, along with films including the world premieres of Minnesota-based films such as Grumpy Old Men.

FROM THE EAST
I-94 to the 11th Street exit. Go 6 blocks on 11th Street to Hennepin Avenue. Turn right on Hennepin Avenue and go three blocks north to the theatre.

FROM THE SOUTH
I-35W to the 5th Avenue exit. Go 2 blocks north on 5th Avenue to 9th Street. Turn left on 9th Street and go 6 blocks to Hennepin Avenue. Go one block north to the theatre.

FROM THE NORTH
Take I-94 to the 4th/7th Street exit. Follow 4th street, and turn right on First Avenue N. Turn left on 10th Street, go one block and turn left on Hennepin Avenue. The theatre is on your right.

Take I-35W to the Washington Avenue exit. Take Washington Avenue towards downtown, and turn left on 3rd Avenue S. Take a right turn on 9th Street and follow it to Hennepin Avenue. The theatre is on your right when you get to Hennepin Avenue.

FROM THE WEST
I-394 to the downtown exits. This will bring you to the Target Center Garage A on 7th St or Garage B on 5th St. From Garage A, the State Theatre is 3 blocks South. From Garage B, it is 2 blocks East.

PARKING
There is ample parking for the State Theatre in the area. There are flat lots on the corner of 10th Street and Hennepin Avenue. There are also parking ramps located at Daytons, LaSalle Plaza, Target Center or municipal ramps all within easy walking distance of the theatre.
