Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus’ Mamma Mia!, the smash hit musical based on the songs of ABBA, is returning to the Hennepin Theatre District! The June 5-16 engagement is presented by Hennepin Theatre Trust as a special on its 2006-07 M&I Bank Broadway Across America-Minneapolis season. Come see the theatrical phenomenon that has people all over the world dancing in the aisles to the musical tunes of ABBA. Mamma Mia! is also part of Nordic Summer in the Twin Cities, a metropolitan-wide celebration of 25 area attractions highlighting programs and events that showcase the arts and culture of Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Iceland.
Inspired by the story-telling magic of ABBA’s timeless songs, writer Catherine Johnson’s sunny, funny tale of family and friendship unfolds on a Greek island. On the eve of her wedding, a daughter’s quest to discover the identity of her father brings three men from her mother’s past back to the island they last visited 20 years ago. Songs including “Dancing Queen,” “The Winner Takes It All,” “Money, Money, Money” and “Take A Chance on Me” are all featured in this feel-good night of fun and laughter.
