MONTY PYTHON'S SPAMALOT DEBUTS IN MINNEAPOLIS FOR ONE WEEK ONLY - 8/14/2007
The Tony Award®-winning Best Musical of 2005, Monty Python's Spamalot, debuts in Minneapolis at the Orpheum Theatre for a limited one week engagement May 27–June 1, 2008. The show is presented by Hennepin Theatre Trust as a special addition to its 2007-08 M&I Bank Broadway Across America-Minneapolis season. It follows a sold-out engagement at Ordway Center in St. Paul. “An exhilarating, no-holds-barred smash hit!” says John Lahr of The New Yorker.

Lovingly "ripped off" from the internationally famous comedy team's most popular motion picture, “Monty Python and the Holy Grail,” Monty Python's Spamalot is the winner of three 2005 Tony Awards® including Best Musical and Best Director (Mike Nichols), as well as the Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle awards for Best Musical. Written by Eric Idle with a new score and lyrics by Idle and John Du Prez, Monty Python’s Spamalot tells the legendary tale of King Arthur and the quest for the Holy Grail with dancing divas, hot knights in tights, feisty Frenchmen and silly songs. The original cast recording of Monty Python’s Spamalot recently won the 2006 Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album. With sold-out engagements since it opened, Monty Python's Spamalot has remained the hottest ticket on Broadway, continuing to break box office records in the United States and internationally.

In a second special addition by Hennepin Theatre Trust, the rock opera version of “the greatest story ever told,” Jesus Christ Superstar, is returning to the Orpheum Theatre May 2-4, 2008. The first masterpiece from the legendary writing team of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber, Jesus Christ Superstar exploded onto the scene in 1971, changing the world of musical theatre. With a score of songs including “I Don’t Know How to Love Him,” “Hosanna,” “Everything’s Alright,” “What’s the Buzz,” “Superstar” and “Heaven on Their Mind,” this original groundbreaking production stars Ted Neeley in the title role, best known for his Golden Globe nominated role as “Christ” in the Norman Jewison film version. “In Living Color’s” Corey Glover as Judas is as timeless and relevant as ever.
